The title “Sport and Exercise Psychologist” is a protected term in the UK which means it is illegal for anyone to use the term unless they are registered with the HCPC. A qualified Sport and Exercise Psychologist must complete a BPS accredited sport psychology masters degree followed by 2 to 3 years of training and supervision by a chartered sport and exercise psychologist.

It is not possible to become a sports psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and the British Association of Sport and Exercise (BASEs) without a degree.
